ICSE Board


ICSE or Indian Council of Secondary Education India is an autonomous educational body which is known for its standard educational pattern that allows students to get quality education without bottleneck pressure that can hamper students’ creativity. This board is recommended as an instructional delivery institution. It also offers distance education programs and hence, students who are staying away from institutions, can get the facility to complete the courses as per their convenience. The ICSE board was established in 1958 and it was started to replace the Cambridge school certification examination. This prestigious board is run by the ICSE council and this council was registered in 1967 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.  Later in 1973, it got listed under the Delhi School Education Act of 1973. The board was listed as a body, which conducts public examinations. ICSE board conducts examinations in English medium in India.

ICSE syllabi are well-structured in all respects. The board conducts ICSE examinations annually in English medium in the various states in India. Based on the CISCE pattern, the curricula for ICSE examinations are prescribed. Based on the recommendations suggested by the new education policy 1986 (India), the board designs the entire examination pattern. ICSE examinations contain 7 subjects and these 7 subjects are classified into 3 groups. For each subject, students need to attempt maximum 3 different papers. Group I consists of 4 compulsory subjects whereas Group II is designed with 6 subjects. Group III has 13 subjects and students need to choose any one subject among them. In short, students need to choose two subjects from Group II and one subject from Group III and additionally, they need to learn all subjects, which are incorporated in group I. Additionally, the board designs suitable syllabus for class 1 to class 10. The board assesses students’ learning demands and based on that, it includes all essential subjects in each syllabus. ICSE board evaluates students’ learning needs and according to that, it chooses each suitable subject for each syllabus.
